Tenerife is an incredible playground. When you start to think you know the island well, you discover a new facet that enchants you once again. More and more people are telling us that riding around the island on a motorbike must be very good. So, I confirm. Yeah, that’s good. Even very good! When you drive down Teide for the first time, you start to daydream. Because, yes, the roads are beautiful, clean and well maintained. So inevitably, we pick up and we imagine ourselves behind a handlebar.

The time has passed between my first discovery of the island and today but finally, I managed to see it up close for you (and for me, of course!). Appointment is taken with the rental shop. I asked for a bike that wasn’t too difficult because it’s been almost 4 years since I’ve put my bottom on a bike worthy of the name. So I opted for a kawasaki ER6, although I hesitated for a while with the KTM Duke 690 (there are also BMW F800R or S1000XR, Kawasaki Versys, Yamaha FZ6 and KTM Superduke GT1290, among others). Remain wise is good… Or not… When I make the call, I change my mind and it will finally be the KTM. Of course, it’s not really suitable for the duo but it’s good, I’m solo and I want to have fun :). Presentation of the driving licence, passport, some explanations and paperwork. I have my helmet, gloves and jacket but the renter also has all that of course. I have a look at the bike, everything looks good and well maintained. Levels are done, new tires, chain kit ok. No big bumps on the bike (just 2 cuts on the saddle). That’s a pretty good sign.

I’m leaving along the south coast. That’s where we live so I know the scenery but on a motorbike it’s immediately different. And I take smaller axes, nose to wind, with no windscreen to bother me. I need a few kilometers to get my bearings again but when the sensations come back, it’s really good.

I leave the coast and start climbing towards the Teide. The landscape changes completely. I was surrounded by cacti and prickly pear. Now it’s a pine forest. I’ve got nostrils and eyes full of it. I smile like a kid. I make some photo stops then on the way to Teide. It takes shape a little further. When I get out of the forest, another complete change of landscape. It’s desert with a few fat plant bushes everywhere. Soil and rocks take on crazy colors. I make some passages several times to try to make beautiful images.

Le Teide et de la mer de nuages depuis un point de vue

On one side, a sea of clouds. On the other, the Cañadas and opposite, the volcano. Today, I don’t go to him and I choose instead to go down to the north coast. New complete change of scenery. As I drove here under a beautiful blue sky and yellow sun, I am now in a white mist surrounded by green. One could believe Morvan or Normandy. I expect to see cows in the middle of the road. I go down roads where I don’t see anyone. Laces that go down to the sea. I take small paths, it goes up, it turns, it goes down. The bike’s working great. I’m so happy. I come out of the cold to return to the south coast. The roads go on and on and I enjoy myself. So much so that I decided to loop back towards the Teide before returning home to bring back the bike.

I drove about 6h30 for almost 300 km and I acquired almost from the beginning the certainty that this island will make all bikers vibrate. I only drove on a small part of Tenerife but I already have lots of ideas to make you discover great places.

We can take care of the booking for you and provide you with several roadbooks. I can also guide you to visit and explain the island, the good plans, etc..

If you are a group and want to enjoy one or more days, we can also set this up. There is enough to do on the island to make 3 days of 200 km (which is enough for one day). And if you don’t have enough, we have ideas to do more 🙂
